Island West Golf Club

January 24, 2016The pines are taller, the bunkering and water hazards more challenging, the views more picturesque at the Pinecrest Golf Club than at nearly any course in the Lowcountry. Rocky Roquemore’s layout (co-designer of three Disney World Courses and working architect at Chicago’s famed Cog Hill) gives you every type of Lowcountry look—tall pines on the front nine and a bit more open, but a potentially hazardous back nine that will challenge players of all skill levels.
The par-four 9th and 18th holes wrap around either side of large lake and are easily visible from the most active clubhouse in the area. Chopper’s Pub has become a gathering place even for non-golfers with its eight satellite-connected TVs for viewing the latest pro and college games in the company of friends and a varied menu, often served up buffet-style.
Another unique feature at Pinecrest is a practice facility so extensive, it has become the home of the International Junior Golf Academy that has sent dozens of players off to prestigious collegiate golf programs and on to professional careers. A double-tee grass practice range, multiple pitching greens, bunkers and putting greens can help any golfer improve their game.
