December 6, 2018When planning your next golf getaway, consider these insider tips for saving some serious green on and off the course, without compromising the quality of your vacation.
Book Early or Book at the Last Minute
The jury is out on this one. If you are able to plan and book your golf trip early, you can take advantage of some great “early bird” package deals. And, if securing prime time tee times is a must for you, booking in advance is a must.
On the other hand, if you decide to take a trip at the last minute or have been procrastinating about finalizing your plans, a number of online travel providers offer package deals with short booking windows. There are also websites that offer unsold tee times for last-minute play, typically 24-72 hours in advance. These discounts, which can often exceed 50 percent, are usually found in major markets with an abundance of courses. Often, however, the best last minute package deals, with the least number of strings attached, can be found by negotiating and booking directly with your resort of choice.
Vacation in Shoulder or Off Seasons
Take advantage of substantially lower rates for lodging and golf by avoiding a destination’s peak season. There’s plenty of good golf weather to be found in the shoulder and off seasons and the overall savings can be 50 percent and more.
Play in Off Peak Times
Golf courses want to keep their tee sheets full! A tee time that goes unsold is a revenue opportunity lost forever. That is why most courses offer a variety of green fee rates throughout each given day. If demand is highest for early play, rates can begin to drop as early as 11:00AM, including on weekends in peak season. Prices typically drop even lower at “twilight”, the start of which varies according to the time of year. Being flexible about the time of day you play will definitely result in measurable savings and possibly provide you with a more relaxed, less crowded experience on the course.
Replay on the Same Day
If you’ve got the stamina, play 36 holes on the same course on the same day. It’s one of the most effective ways to save money, even on the best courses. Be aware that some courses take replay reservations in advance, while others only accept them based on availability. Check the policy at each course in advance.
